Bubble-maze basics · Guide 2
Bubble chains: when one blast sets off another
A chain can clear a lot of the maze at once. It can also close your way out. Knowing how an ordinary bubble's blast travels makes both easier to predict.
An ordinary blast travels in a plus shape
An ordinary bubble bursts in four straight lines: up, down, left and right, as far as its range allows. A tile diagonal to that bubble is not in its blast, but another bubble, a chain or a different hazard can still reach it. Check every line before you stop on a tile.
Walls stop it, crates catch it
A solid wall ends that arm of the blast before it passes. A crate takes the hit, breaks and also ends that arm, so the tile behind the crate is not reached by the same blast.
A bubble in the blast goes off right away
If a blast reaches another bubble, that bubble does not wait for its own timer. It bursts in the same moment and sends out its own plus shape. A second bubble can therefore make an explosion arrive earlier than you planned. If you hear the booms spaced slightly apart, that is the sound being spread out so you can count them. It is not extra time to escape.
Watch the pulse
A waiting bubble pulses gently. Shortly before it bursts, the pulse becomes faster and bigger. When you see the fast pulse, be out of its lines already.
Plan a chain in three looks
- Before placing: which straight lines will this bubble cover?
- Is another bubble already sitting in one of those lines? If so, it will burst at the same moment.
- Is your escape tile outside every line in the chain, not just the first one?
When a chain catches you
Look back at the second bubble. A surprise is often a bubble that sat in another one's range, so it went off early. Next time, try placing it one tile off that line or stepping around a corner first.
A general guide for Boome Slime, which is still in development. It describes ordinary bubbles in the current offline rules. Ranges, items and modes differ between the full iOS development build and the separate Android 50-stage trial. This is not a walkthrough or a promise of availability.
