Bubble-maze basics · Guide 3
Crates and power-ups: what is inside, and how far it takes you
Crates are the part of the maze you can change. Breaking them opens new paths, and some of them leave something useful behind. Knowing what each drop does helps you decide which crate is worth the risk.
Two ways to move a crate out of the way
A crate breaks when a bubble's blast reaches it. The blast stops there, so the tile behind the crate stays untouched by that bubble. Some crates can also be pushed: hold the direction toward the crate and it slides one tile, as long as the space behind it is free. Pushing is quieter, but it can also close a path you meant to use later.
Not every crate drops something
When a crate breaks, there is roughly a one-in-three chance that a power-up appears on that tile. Most crates are just crates. Breaking a whole row because one of them might hold something is a good way to run out of safe tiles.
The three everyday power-ups
- Blue potion: more range. Your bubbles reach one tile farther in each of their four lines.
- Extra bubble: more at once. You can have one more bubble on the board at the same time.
- Shoes: more speed. You move faster, which also makes small steering mistakes bigger.
Every friend has a ceiling
Range, bubble count and speed can only rise to the maximum of the friend you are playing. Once one of them is at its ceiling, picking up more of the same power-up does not raise it further. A starting charm can give a +1 head start, but it never raises the ceiling either.
Power-ups belong to the run
Power-ups gathered during a stage stay with you for that run only. The next run starts again from your friend's own starting values, so an early, careful pickup is often worth more than a late, risky one.
A simple order that works
- Break the crate that opens your next path first, not the one that looks luckiest.
- With more range, step one tile farther away than you are used to. Your old safe spot may now be inside the blast.
- With more bubbles, place one, move, and look again before the second. More bubbles means more chances to chain into yourself.
- With more speed, make shorter taps around corners until it feels natural.
A general guide for Boome Slime, which is still in development. It describes the current offline story rules. Items and modes differ between the full iOS development build and the separate Android 50-stage trial. This is not a walkthrough or a promise of availability.
